Mangaluru: 'Reinstate Christian Development Corporation or we will take to streets' - Ivan D'Souza

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Nov 18: Former MLC Ivan D'Souza urged chief minister B S Yediyurappa to reinstate Christian Development Corporation and asked for a justification to the community and reason behind rejecting the corporation.

Addressing media here on Wednesday November 18, Ivan D'Souza said, "We condemn the government's move to not pursue formation of Christian Development Corporation. The government has formed development corporation for every community be it Marata and Veerashaiva which has less population compared to the Christian community. Christian community exists in every district of the state and has also contributed in the field of education and health.

"The then Congress government sought the opinion of the community in forming the development corporation and was in the process which was later mentioned in the 2019-2020 budget during coalition government. But today, the effort of six years went in vain after the government denied the formation of Christian Development Corporation. In 2019, the government secretary submitted a letter for examining the proposal of forming the corporation. But after examining the proposal, the finance department advised the administrative department not to pursue formation of the corporation, as discussed and decided in a pre-budget meeting with chief minister.

"We want to know who guided the chief minister in taking this decision. Do you think we are undignified in the state? This is injustice to the Christian community and the result of doing good work in the society. Never underestimate our community. We demand to immediately reinstate the development corporation or else we would take to the streets and the government will be held responsible," Ivan D’Souza further added vexed over the decision.

Congress leaders Stany Alvares, Lancelot Pinto and others were present.

Not sure why honourable Ivan D'Souza is pushing for Christian Development Corporation.., in fact the coastal Christian community is one of the highly blessed people...be it in education, enterprising, economic, health etc.,

There's absolutely no need for govt's interference in their development... their institutions and governing body itself capable of taking decision & have sources to implement them successfully...,

There's no point in drawing the attention of Jokers..., In fact once they realized that Cheddi is missionaries invention..., they threw it...on the street..., the people are suffering b'coz of its stinking features...,

High time for some Christian priests and learned intellectual members of the community to stop honourable leader Ivan sir..

Everyone wants caste based politics... Hindus want Lingayat, gowda boards, Muslim wants minority boards, christian wants their respective boards

I am not for any development boards on communal lines. Being a leader of the so called true secular party, Ivan should not have raised this issue. I think after airport protest there are no more issues left. People still have faith in the PM’s “sab ka saath, sab ka vikas aur sab ka vishwas.” Waiting to see how far the saath, vikas and vishwas reaches the common man.

BJP never committed that it would support any '' development Coporn' . Hence it was disbanded.
So it has already walked the talk . Please not BJP is bigger party for anybody's opinion to affect its prospects. The ball is in the Congress court, to revive , win elections and implement what it wants. If it is unable to do this, then my sympathies are with you.

No need any board or slate. We need peaceful life. For the daily hood one has to do hard work . Now politicians are politicizing the situation by requesting each board for the community. First of all State governments doesn't have funds to function . By creating these boards , the expenses will be recovered by taxpayers hard earned money!

Ivan is trying to restrict the Congress party for minorities only .....
He should understand that minorities are going to vote the Congress only, no need of any appeasement, he & his party should come out with strategies to garner the support of those who are not voting them, those shifted their loyalties to other parties .....

Need to understand, how this " Christian Development Corporation " is going to benefit, the minority community in Karnataka... We do not have any beneficiaries for the Christian community, in my state of Maharashtra.. Ivan D'Souza, should duly ask his party, who is in a coalition within the Mahaghatbandan, to initiate Likewise programs, to help the marginalized Christians in my state.....
