Puttur, Nov 21: National highway 75 between Mangaluru and Bengaluru is in a very bad shape. Even though it has been several months since the highway reached this stage, the national highways department has not taken measures to repair the road and make it motorable.

Even though Rs 16 crore was released to repair the highway from Padil to Addahole the contractor did not execute the works properly. Therefore, those who use this road have to go through the treacherous stretch. As the road was thoroughly damaged during the rainy season, a sum of Rs 16 crore was released and the plan also said that re-asphalting has to be undertaken wherever needed.

The stretch of the highway between B C Road and Addahole is thoroughly damaged. Repair works began two months back. One phase of work at B C Road Melkar, Kalladka, Narahari Betta, Surikumeru etc has been completed but potholes have surfaced again at Melkar, Narahari Betta and Kalladka areas.

Almost every day, heavy vehicles get stuck in the potholes and suffer damages. This creates traffic blocks and vehicle riders are compelled to wait for hours on the highway. The highway department has asked the contractor to give first preference to close the potholes. But it is seen that work is going on at stretches where potholes are less.

The road between Melkar and Kalladka has become very bad. Various protests undertaken to repair the road have not had any effect on the department.
