Washington, May 15 (IANS): The US has extended its sanctions on Myanmar for another year, the White House said.
"Because the actions and policies of the government of Burma (Myanmar) continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the US," the sanctions imposed on Burma will continue in effect beyond May 20, it said in a statement Friday.
The US accuses Myanmar of committing "large-scale repression of the democratic opposition". The sanctions included prohibition on new investment, Xinhua reported.
