Panaji, Dec 5: Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener of Goa Unit Elvis Gomes quit from the party on Friday, December 4 alleging that the local unit is being controlled by the Delhi lobby.

Speaking at a press conference, Gomes stated that his decision to quit the party came after the Delhi unit started to control the affairs of the party in the state which the local leaders had nurtured for last several years.

Gomes further said that the party has deviated from its ideology in recent times and alleged that the party is not working in the interest of the Goans rather decisions are taken by people sitting in Delhi. "We don't want to be controlled by the Delhi lobby," he said.

The former bureaucrat, who was the AAP's chief ministerial face during the 2017 state Assembly elections had stepped down from his post as the convenor of the party's state unit in September stating that he was interested in working for the party at grassroots level in the state.

He has urged the party workers to be vigilant on the decisions taken by the leaders alleging that the core group ofthe AAP's Goa unit that was working for the upcoming 2022 state Assembly elections was completely sidelined.
