Udupi: Karavali bypass junction in darkness since a year

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Dec 5: Karavali Bypass junction flyover, which is the main connection center for Mangaluru-Kundapura-Udupi-Malpe road, was built a year ago, but till now there are no street lights provided in this area. Public is expressing rage against this administration apathy.

The flyover which is 800-meter long and 11 meter wide has six lanes. Three heavy vehicles can pass at a time. More than 20 electric poles are already installed for fixing the lights. Some bulbs are also fixed. But the flyover is still in darkness.

This matter was brought up in the recently held general body meeting of zilla panchayat also. None of the officials could give a clear cut explanation for the delay. In the Disha meeting of MP also, this issue was raised but there is no progress.

As there are no lights, gang of Youths Park their vehicles on the flyover and indulge in liquor consumption and create nuisance. This has caused anxiety to the other commuters who use this road for travel in the night. Locals have urged the administration to put an end to the immoral activities that are taking place on the flyover by fixing the lights as soon as possible.

Two-wheelers, cars, containers transporting fish, tempo and tourist vehicles commute through the flyover as well as the service road at Karavali junction. Not only the flyover, but also the four directional service road and underpass does not have street lights. Accessing these roads after 7 pm is really difficult. In addition, vehicles coming from wrong side is increased on the service road. Underpass commuting is also causing lots of hardship for the vehicle owners and drivers.

A local resident said, "Several months have passed after installing electric poles and some bulbs on Karavali Junction fly over. However, so far electricity connection is not given. This is causing issues for vehicle drivers in the night. Concerned officials should take immediate action."

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje says, "In the last Disha meeting that was held, instructions were given to officials to install street lights on Karavali junction. A separate meeting will be called soon to discuss highway issues and delay in fixing lights at Karavali junction."

Even the road under the flyover connecting Adi Udupi to Udupi-Manipal Road is full of ditches as big as craters.

It looks all authority is dead in Udupi, although the Police, Traffic Police, staff
of PWD, and staff of Municipality. the MLA, the BJP leaders pass this Karavali Junction area - but they take no action to repair and rectify roads and street lights, with so many complaints from people appearing in media. What's wrong with such people in authority? It happens only in India!

It is the responsibility of the Udupi municipality to provide power supply to the street lights at one point. Hope cables between the lighting pole might have been laid by the the NHAI Contractor. If not, it is not a big deal. Don't listen to the excuses of the officials. Name and shame them for the delay in executing the work.

What is the reason for electric supply being not given other than the supplier not getting the slice of the pie!

Unless somebody is held accountable & taken to task nothing much is going to happen & things will never improve; our politicians are busy in changing names & giving provocative speeches!

Reality might be different. Provided high value tender to install solar lights. But mutual understanding between engineer and contractor installed electrical lights. Now Electricity board not involved in understanding share, so no power supplied. How can electric lights burn ???

Nothing new or unusual. She will come if there is a communal clash or a programme hosted by BJP.
