Panaji, Dec 6 (IANS): Goa DGP Mukesh Kumar Meena on Sunday said that there were fears that there could be black marketing of Covid-19 vaccines once pan-India vaccination drive is rolled out and police thus has an important role to play in such scenario.
Speaking at a function at the police headquarters here to mark the 58th Raising Day of Home Guards and Civil Defence organisation, Meena said that the police would have a "great role" to play in the smooth and efficient rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine.
"Now a lot of talks are going on regarding vaccination. That during vaccination, the government will require the services of police, home guards and civil defence volunteers because they are planning (about) how it will be distributed, how this programme will be implemented," Meena said.
"So, once it (vaccine) comes, police has to play a great role in its distribution everywhere, including transportation. And there are fears that during vaccination, there may be black marketing. In that case, the police has a great role to play," the Goa Director General of Police said.
The top cop bemoaned the lack of civil defence organisation volunteers in Goa and said that he was working on ways to increase the voluntary organisation's membership.
