Karnataka Bill against conversions in next Assembly session: Minister R Ashoka

Bengaluru, Dec 7 (IANS): Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka said on Monday that the state's BJP government would table a Bill for a ban on unlawful conversions for interfaith marriages in the next Assembly session.

Speaking to reporters here, Ashoka said that the state government had been interacting with experts from various fields to come up with a "foolproof law" in this regard.

"Therefore, we are not hurriedly tabling this Bill in this session," he said and asserted that there was no question of backing out.

BJP-ruled states of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Assam have made it clear that passing the Bills against 'love jihad' is one of their top priorities.

'Love jihad' term is used by certain outfits to describe what they call a conspiracy by Muslims to convert unsuspecting Hindu women to Islam before marrying them.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa said that neither the BJP nor the Sangh Parivar was against interfaith marriages.

"Our main aim is to prevent human trafficking in the name of marriages. We know that there are people who are misusing love marriages to indulge in such activities," he alleged, but refused to elaborate.

    What is Hindu population of India and rest of minority (mailnly Muslim/Cristianity) ?
    Even till end of the world there is no scope for minorities to over take the Hindu population strength at all. If they feel insecure let them have at least 6 children every family and if needed (more than one wife) . Our politicians and some fake gurus are poisoning dumb leaders mind set.

    Does that law prohibits non-Hindus (minority communities ) to convert to Hinduism.
    In case Hindu boy falls in love with non-Hindu girl what is the way out for the girl to complete marriage process and live as husband and wife. ???

    BJp is trying this stunt for 2 reasons;

    1. Divert your attention from Modi's colossal economic failure and hide issues related to massive unemployment, price rise, Farmer issues, Economic collapse, Sale of profitable PSU's to BJP's election sponsors.
    2. To deprive the lower castes of converting to Buddhism and moving away from the control of the upper castes.

    Typical Diversionary tactics of the BJP to skirt peoples issues and their sufferings caused by total Mis Governance and Mis Management for the last six years. In a country with a majority of 80 % and a total Minority Population of less than 20% such fear mongering is totally misplaced and with the sole aim to polarise society and engage in Divisive Politics .

    The BJP has nothing to showcase of their six years of misrule except for Disaster on all fronts.

    Catholics have no restriction on marrying a person of any religion. In the bldg where I lived in Mumbai, there is a church of "Assembly of God", on the ground floor. To get married in that church, both the parties have to be of their faith. Since in Mumbai, many boys and girls come together in office and other functions, the pastor gets request to consecrate marriage with a partner who is not a member their faith.

    The pastor, first advises them to get married in registrar's office. Then he gets a letter from the partner who does not belong to their faith that he/she wants to convert by his/her own accord to the faith of the spouse. The letter is witnessed by two prominent people. Pastor never advises them to marry in their church or to get converted. But, if the marriage has to be solemnized by him, both boy as well as girl have to be of that faith. No problem has come from any quarters to that Pastor till today.

    @ Mr. D'Souza,
    Christian missionaries preach and propagate the faith. They do not convert by force or inducement. Even in case of interfaith marriages the husband or wife are not compelled to convert. So our missionaries cannot be targeted so easily, but chances are they can be falsely framed as it had been happening over the years.

    I dont think this new bill will play key role reducing interfaith marriages. People are smart enough to find alternatives ways of solutions. Let bjp ponder over reforms within the fold of their own system and practices..

    The law may not reduce interfaith marriages but can definitely restrict compulsory conversion as a condition before or after marriage. What alternative solutions do you think they will find? If and when there arises a dispute between the couple, he or she can easily file FIR against the partner accusing him/her of compelling to convert after marriage. The only solution is don't convert anybody against his/her will.

    R Ashok does is one of the underperforming minister. Now he got one issue to shine !! Conversions. He does not not enjoy the support of Bangaloreans after Dr.Aswathanarayan started call shots and emerging as a powerful vokkaliga leader. Ashoka's poor image is making him to increase his communal tone ,so that he will be acceptable at least someone. .No his lavish lifestyle and poor communication skills is making him a laughing stock.

    How do you legally define intentional, non forceful conversion with court written permission against constitutional law??????????........Just like marriage this conversion could also be registered by the court although not necessary but to stay clear of rogue elements.
