Mangaluru, Dec 8: Judge of the district and sessions court here, which also is the designated POCSO court, Savitri Venkataramana Bhat passed a judgement awarding ten years imprisonment to Sathish from Kashipatna Kurappady after concluding that the charge of raping a minor levelled against him has been proved. The judgement was delivered on Monday December 7. He also has been imposed with a fine of Rs 60,000.
Out of the fine amount, Rs 50,000 was ordered to be disbursed to the victim. The judge also ordered the government to pay compensation of six lac to the rape victim.
Sathish used to work as coolie at a site along with the maternal uncle of the girl. On the basis of this acquaintance, he had become friendly with the girl. During the last week of January 2018, he had led the girl to a hillock near her home and raped her there, it was alleged. The girl had become pregnant. A complaint had been registered against the man in Venoor police station.
Special public prosecutor C Venkataramana Swamy had argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
