Udupi, Dec 10: In a press release, Shirur Math Devotees Committee said that wrong information has been conveyed to devotees and the society relating to the affairs of Shirur Math. It said that pained by this, followers and devotees of the said Math are planning to undertake legal measures to get justice.

The press release said that from the media reports, they found that at a press conference addressed in Shirur Math by the Swamijis of Sode and Palimaru Maths, it was informed that during the period of the then head of Shirur Math, Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji, income tax amounting to crores of rupees was not paid. They insisted that details of payments and copies thereof are available. They stated that the charges levelled at the press conference were unfounded.

"When the income tax department services notices, and the accuracy of the claim is not justified, it is normal practice to question such demands. Revealing details of the income of the Math to the media immediately upon getting income tax notice is backed by malicious intentions. It is improper and against law," the devotees stated.

They said that the wrong information conveyed to the Math’s followers, devotees and the society has pained them. Therefore they have informed that they are planning legal struggle against this measure.
