Puttur, Dec 10: The deadlock on the issue of the marriage of Asiya and Ibrahim Khaleel Kattekkar which has been pending since the last several months failed to find a solution on Wednesday December 9, as a final decision could not be arrived at. Frustrated by this, Asiya began her protest demonstration at the Kattekar Footwear shop at Gandhinagar here.
The District Muslim Union and other organizations, along with the managing committee of Gandhinagar Jumma Masjid had conducted a meeting. Khaleel had been asked to attend the concilliary meeting held on Wednesday. But Khaleel stayed away from the meeting. As a result, no decison could be taken. In the evening, K Ashraf, president of Dakshina Kannada distict Muslim Union, and other leaders along with Asiya visited the office of the police circle inspector here and explained to him about the developments.
Speaking to Daijiworld Asiya said, "Ibrahim Khaleel Kattekkar's father on December 4 agreed to accept me as his daughter-in-law through a written letter give to the Masjid. He also told me that he would take me to his residence. When the DK Muslims Union approached with papers, Shiyab Kattekar told that Khaleel is not at home and his father is not well. We are therefore not taking her to the residence but we will be keeping her in another confidential residence. But the DK Muslims Union leader K Ashraf did not agree to this. Later, Ashraf also asked him to keep in Khaleel's residence till Khaleel comes back to the home but he did not agree.
"My father-in-law changed his decision after Shiyab Kattekkar asked him to do so. As I was not taken to residence I have decided to sit in Khaleel's shop," she said.
