Moodbidri, Dec 21: The allegation of creating different lines for the people belonging to different castes has again been made in respect of Lord Subrahmanya temple at Kadandale near here.

It is said that after the puja, food was served separately to the Brahmin community people. Once they consumed food, food was served to other people, it is alleged. Those making allegations say that people have to be made to sit in a single line irrespective of their caste credentials when serving food.

The devotees are livid at this differentiation made by the temple priest. It is said that a lady police personnel had been insulted last year because she was a Dalit. The priest, it is reported, had sent the lady out of the inner precincts of the temple. Reportedly caste-based discrimination is followed in this temple since many years. The situation had turned tense after the incident, and the police personnel who intervened at the spot pacified the people and established normalcy.

Since independence the government too is responsible for preserving and promoting caste system through their caste and community based reservation policies. There is no such system in other secular countries. There can't be equality and uniformity in the country until such policies are abolished.

Some comments on this news are seen as follows, for which I post my openion...

".... for Brahmins for their benefit" - I cant find sufficient evidence for this phrase. If you have any please let me know.

Brahmins were respected for their dedication towards the wellness of world. In order to perform rituals like Yaga or Yajna, it is important to mantain bodiliy and mental cleanliness for which separation from others is a must. In ancient times, people were well aware of this and so, they themselves stay separate from Brahmins.

But now there are many Brahmins who are not following their caste-culture and duties. But some are there who still do their duties sincerely. Looking at one, we cannot judge whether he is a dedicated or not.

As I told earlier, it is costom in temples to honour eligible Brahmins with welcultured food offering. Nowadays it is difficult to judge one's eligibility for such offerings. So all Brahmins are offered. Otherwise, the temple costoms will be broken.

In some places, purposefully, it is seen or heard that different quality food is served based on caste. It is really discrimination. Such costoms must be stopped.

Hotels, restaurants, bars, cenema theatre, offices, educational institutions etc are considered as public places. A citizen or a public has no alternatives for these. But temples are different from these. A devotee can perform prayers without going to temple.

And maintaining one's superiority over others is a common thing that all human beings do.

Many will disagree with me but there is discrimination in all religions and is deep rooted, based on different criteria including color of the skin, appearance, financial status and caste before conversion.Just look at the matrimonial ads and decided for yourself if I am right or wrong.

It is very bad to discriminate people on thier castes.

But in some old Hindu temples, there is a costom to honour Brahmins especially during lunch. As it is a temple costom, it should be followed. Usually the 'devotees' will not object such costom and they respect it.

Temple authority or priest should inform the costoms of the temple to devotees and ask them to follow that. No devotee should be blamed or insulted on the name of caste...

In some public functions, it is seen VIPs are served separately in a well designed environment. This costom is also discrimination.
Is it allowed?

This kind of costoms have become discriminations in such a high level only after they are discribed so by some scholars or reformers who dont have any knowledge about Inian culture.

In some temples, there are some places where even a Brahmin permitted to enter.

These customs were made by Brahmins, for Brahmins for their benefit and to maintain their superiority over others. There are no rationale for keeping this and high time they are removed and all are treated equal.

Sad. I have seen this treatment when I was growing. It was very very painful the way people were treated. As a catholic boy I used to offer them food and drinks in my own plat and cups. But my hindu friends were upset and ask me to offer food in coconut nutshell. I used to get angry with them. They use to tell me they will stop meeting us I said my neighbors ok but I continue to offer food as we offer to anybody. That has made me happy today. There were many treatments were really painful to those individuals . Many of them used to study in the catholic schools in catholic schools. Today many of them are senior officials and we feel proud of them. Catholics treated equally to many and educated them free and made them successful in best ways. This discrimination must stop immediately.

Bhat I am not accusing anybody but this is a memory when I was growing witnessed during 1980. I left India in 1990 and dont know now the situation is. Hope we humans start respecting everyone as humans without religious label and many more biases. People are smart and opportunity makes everyone to be successful provided that politicians and religious leaders shut up and start respecting everyone respectfully.

Time to redefine Brahmin. Brahmin is the one who gets early , works hard on his works and studies and become a master, i would say a good professor irrespective of cast, religion, he is Brahmin. Brahmin is guys working hard , thats why they try in General category in CET,.. any other entrance exam. Be like Brahmin and don't label based on family which is meaning less.

Article 17 of the Constitution has dismantled Untouchability and its practice in any form is forbidden.

BUT NOT THE CASTE SYSTEM which is alive and well in Hindu society- it cannot be dismantled as it is deep-rooted.

It is like the black and white race in the White society across the globe - there is no equality between the races in society although public services and admission to public places cannot be denied to blacks. Temples are public institutions. However, when devotees are segregated for food distribution, it is questionable whether it is the law or the spirit of the law that is broken.

As far as my knowledge goes this is common practice in the Hindu community since ages.

In Mangaluru also Vekatramana temple they dont allow other Hindu caste people during Car festival to have food..

IT does not matter..Feku will put everything in place. Just give him another 63 years as we have given 70 years to Congress.

Your question is correct....

We agree or don't, we follow the reservation system based on Caste.

I think temple rituals or customs should be observed and followed as such.

And also, it is not good for a person to insult others on the name of so called lower caste. The temple authority or priest can inform the person about the customs of temple and ask him or her to follow it. Because, birth in an upper caste or in a lower caste is not a curse or boon. All the castes have their own dignity and purity.
