Mangaluru: At 90, Taranath Kamath continues to work hard, distribute newspapers

Mangaluru, Dec 26: S Taranath Kamath stands out as an example to prove that for those who have will power, age is not an obstacle. At the age of 90, he continues to distribute newspapers. His birthday is on December 25.

Kamath Began newspaper distribution to homes 70 years back when the city did not have any newspaper offices and printing presses. He began by delivering a handful of newspapers to households. Now he distributes 2,000 newspapers every day.

Kamath's work begins at 2.30 am every day, notwithstanding rain, wind, chill, curfew etc. He comes to Kankanady from his house at Padil at 3 am and arranges the newspapers. He distributes newspapers in his shop located at Kankanady bypass road. Even at this age, he works ten hours every day. He believes in working hard and remaining honest. His health is good even at this advanced age. Kamath had introduced his two sons, Vishnu Kamath and Vinayaka Kamath, into this field.

When he was 45, Kamath had fallen when distributing newspapers and had hurt his waist. He had to depend on others for moving about and was confined to home for two years. He later overcame the pain and got back to his work. Initially he started with a stationery shop and hiring bicycles. It has been 70 years since the time he began to distribute newspapers.
