Mangaluru, Jan 1: A couple who raised questions over wayward driving of their neighbours were assaulted mercilessly by the same people in their neighbourhood at Hoige, Ullal.

Ullal Hoige residents Steven D’Souza (40) and wife Veena D’Souza(30) are the victims of the assault. Their neighbours Prakash D’Souza, Madhujeeven D’Souza, his wife Keerthi D’Souza and Chetan D’Souza have been accused of committing the crime.

As per reports, the couple was returning home from the Thokottu Church when the accused were recklessly driving their car. Given the poor road conditions, reckless driving could have proven fatal to the lives of Steven and his wife. Fortunately, they narrowly escaped from meeting with an accident. Following this, Steven approached his neighbours to question their careless driving.

The neighbours who grew spiteful of the way in which Steven rebuked them, barged his residence and brutally assaulted Steven and his wife with a wooden log on the head, legs, back and hip.

The couple also admitted themselves at a private hospital in Ullal for treatment. A police case in this connection has been registered in the Ullal police station.

I think, both the victims and the accused had enmity previously being neighbours. A slight argument might have escalated , which gradually resulted into an attack - a deplorable act of violence....

    They may be repenting now..

In the church during the mass the priest asks the people in the church to asks them to bow and give one another and with a smile wish pass the sign of peace. This they might have done at church but they have a different way of giving sign of peace at home( a barbaizam way) . They forgot what the priest had said live thy neighbours. Any way let the law take action against the culprits impartially.A strict action is really appreciated so that this type of barbaric action would not be repeated.

Assault and goondagiri has become common.Police should take strict action and book them under stricter IPC and CrPC laws and also make a watertight case.People are not afraid of hurting and killing others as they know that they will come out on bail. This has to change.

The accused should be behind bars. Nowadays people are taking law in their own hands with no police action. The public should come out openly and put pressure on the police for necessary action. Tomorrow they may bully other neighbors if they are Scot free teach them a lesson.

This is very sad. I don't think Prakash D's family knows the meaning of Christmas or New Year, especially during these dark days of pandemic. I hope the police sends them behind bar and teach them a very strong lesson on humbleness. I hope Steven and Veena recover from their injuries soon.

Now a days, "love thy neighbour, family problems, divorce" are not the subjects of preaching. During corona, they are more concentrating on death, punishment and hell
