Udupi, Jan 1: Following complaints of use of formalin to preserve fish at Malpe fisheries port, food safety officials and fisheries officials visited the port on December 18. They collected samples of 12 varieties of fish food and sent them to the laboratory in Bengaluru for tests. The laboratory report which came back with the results now states that there is no presence of formalin in the samples submitted.
“Formalin test kit is obtained. As tests to know the presence of formalin in the fish will be conducted, there is no need for people to be worried. If formalin is found, the samples of fish food will be sent to the lab for tests. Suitable action will be taken on the basis of the lab report,” said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha in a press release.
