Daijiworld Media Network - Kadaba (SP)

Kadaba, Jan 2: Work on a vented dam being built across River Kumaradhara near Shantimogaru for the multi-village drinking water project has resumed. The dam is meant to supply drinking water to Kudmar, Savanur, Belandur, Kaniyoor, Punchappady, Alankaru, Perabe and Nanthoor villages.

The project is expected to be completed by May 2021. MLA S Angara has provided a grant of Rs 7.5 crore for the project through minor irrigation department. The work has been undertaken under the Paschima Vahini scheme. The dam also will enrich the underground water table for a radius of three km around the dam. The dam will be 4 metres in height, 221 meters long and three meters wide. It will have 56 sluice gates.

Work on the project had started two years back, but after the foundation, the work did not progress as water flow did not deplete. As such, the project deadline was shifted from 2020 to 2021. The MLA said that the dam will meet the drinking water requirement of four villages and increase the underground water level.
