Bengaluru, Jan 2: The criminal investigation department (CID) here has sent a proposal to the union home ministry and Google website to place restrictions on over a hundred Chinese apps as they were found to be stealing the information of customers in the guise of granting loans.
Recently, the CID officials had arrested three persons belonging to a China-based company after finding them to be cheating the people after approaching them in the guise of granting loans. During the investigation, they realised that over a hundred apps available in Google store were playing fraud on the people in the name of extending financial assistance. These apps were also found to be stealing confidential information.

Taking serious note of these facts, the CID officials have taken steps to block these apps from Google Store. A detailed report has also been submitted in this regard to the union home ministry and Google, it is learnt.
CID cybercrime branch, through Twitter, has asked the people to be very careful about the use of loan-based apps. They have also been requested to inform the police immediately after they come across any problems like the above. The officials said that Chinese companies have invested in loan apps and during the investigation, it was found that they had not obtained any permission or approval about digital loan dealings. These companies, in the guise of online business and financial dealings, had collected phone numbers of customers. They used to advise people to download loan apps if they wanted loans within a minute. Once the apps were downloaded, PAN cards, Aadhar and photos of the people were collected. Once the loan amount was transferred, they directly stole confidential information from the mobile phones, the officials explained.
They said that in addition to arresting the head of south India operations of the company, human resources officers, 750 computers, mobile phones and other things were seized from their possession.
