Karnataka health minister Dr Sudhakar says Indian vaccine safe

Bengaluru, Jan 4 (IANS): Amid the controversy over regulatory approval for Bharat Biotech's Covaxin without enough data on its efficacy, Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar on Monday claimed that the Indian vaccine was safe for use against coronavirus.

"I have spoken to scientists involved in research and development of the vaccine and it is safe for use against Covid," said Sudhakar, a medical doctor, in a statement here.

Lauding the scientists for developing an indigenous vaccine in a record time, Sudhakar said license would be given to the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech to roll out its Covaxin after completing the third stage clinical trials.

"Emergency approval has been given for restricted use of Covaxin. Corona warriors across the southern state will be given the vaccine in the first phase when it is commercially produced after the trials," he said.

Drugs Controller General of India V.G. Somani announced in New Delhi on Sunday that the Central Drug Standards Control Organisation had accepted the recommendations of the expert committee for the restricted use of Covishield of the Pune-based Serum Institute of India and Covaxin in an emergency situation.

"The indigenous vaccine is India's gift to the world. Preparations are underway to use the vaccine across the state when it is supplied to use. Senior citizens and comorbid patients will be inoculated after the frontline warriors," said Sudhakar.

A dry run was conducted in 5 districts across the state on January 2 to train the healthcare warriors in administering the vaccine from this month-end or early February onwards.

This minister must receive the dose(what he is prescribing for the people, not the water shot to fake the people) before prescribing to the people.

In any drug trials,The first stage is on animals, second on volunteers and perhaps most important third phase for efficacy and safety is on real patients . Indian Covaxins have no data on third stage as per the chairman of Serum institute that produced this vaccine ( a company which is aggressive in marketing and with political connections ) Please release data from Clinical trial 3 data ...we will accept the vaccine...

Serum Institute manufacturers Covishied and this is manufactured from the stools of chimpanzees (according to news reports) -from adeno virus loaded with spike protein of Corona -this is a new concept.
Bharat Biotech manufactures from inactivated corona virus which is a time tested method.
SII can broadcast the good points of its vaccine, but there is no point in criticizing it's competitor.

The vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech -Covaxin is derived from inactivated corona virus. This is a time tested concept and I am sure it is both safe and effective. As far as trials are concerned my personal opinion is that many stages were not required in the first place and it could have been granted permission much earlier. Do you conduct all stages of trials if a old time tested medicine e.g paracetamol is repurposed? The answer is NO !!! The authorites have to be more practical. There is no point in having a vaccine after the virus has disappeared, many stages in trials have to be omitted in time tested concepts. Full stages of trials are required only in new medicines and concepts.

If the vaccine is safe ( without stage 3 trial ), then give the same vaccine to the all BJP politicians and the blind followers first and then roll out the same for the common populace.

    Dear health minister

We have full faith in our scientists. The US President and Russian President have got first vaccinated with their country's vaccines. We would like first our PM and you, as health minister should volunteer for the vaccine, so that the people will be ready and will have complete faith in the vaccine.

The efficacy of a vaccine is not established by word of mouth, in this case by various ministers trying to treat public as idiots. If they are so confident about it why not publish results of the vaccine trials like how pfizer, moderna and Oxford vaccines have done so far. Believe in science not these donkeys who are just pushed to say stuff by bigger political goons who hold all the shares of this so called "global vaccine" with no published results. I will def not encourage any of my loved ones to have it without results being published rather go for the other 3 if available. Stay safe everyone :)
