End to Gulf dispute: Saudi Arabia to open borders with Qatar

Daijiworld Media Network – Riyadh

Riyadh, Jan 5: Kuwaiti officials announced that Saudi Arabia and Qatar have agreed to reopen their airspace and maritime borders starting Monday, ending a three-year-old dispute.

It may be recalled, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have boycotted Qatar since mid-2017 after it was found to be supporting terrorism. While Qatar, which shares its only land border with Saudi Arabia, rejected the accusations, calling them ‘unjustified’ and ‘baseless’.

Sources from the US administration informed on Monday that President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, helped negotiate the reopening between the two countries. Gulf Arab leaders are expected to gather in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday December 5 for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) annual summit that is expected to announce a deal towards ending the dispute.

Representatives from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will attend the event. The Qatari Emir will also attend the summit, his first visit to the country in three years

Kuwaiti foreign minister Ahmad Nasser Mohammed al Sabah said that a declaration would be signed at the summit. Kuwait has been mediating between Qatar and the Arab states.

"Hoping India will have good relation with our neighboring countries "

Yes, that is badly needed for peaceful co-existence and economic developments and build the Nation to ensure peoples prosperity but BJP has different agenda and multi-racial, religious propaganda. Modi Sarkar will be the last one to patch up with both China & PAK. Aggressive attitude will not help in any form or way. Our enemies are consolidating their position against India. Jealousy is the reason.

John R, Lobo, Mangalore, There is no doubt about it. This will help many people around the world both friendly and economically. As you very well know many expatriates especially Indians worked there in the Gulf countries and made a good life for their families. I too worked in Dubai and other Gulf countries for several years. Then I moved to New York, USA with my wife, daughter, and son in 1987. Now I and my wife are retired after 30 years working hard in different hospitals. By God's Grace our children are doing well. My advice is work anywhere and you will find success in your life.

Good move the end of gulf conflict. It's a win for Qatar. Because Saudi led group of 4 countries previously kept 13 conditions for lifting sanction on Qatar. Now conditions automatically scrapped.
