Mangaluru: 'Implement new law against cattle slaughtering' - State Animal Welfare Board

Mangaluru, Jan 6: Member of Karnataka Animal Welfare Board Vinay L Shetty welcoming governor's assent for the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation Cattle Ordinance, 2020 said, "As the governor has given approval for the Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation Cattle Ordinance, we urge the police commissioner and superintendent of police of Dakshina Kannada to implement the new law, take action against violators of law and punish them under the new law."

Speaking during a press meet at district BJP office Vinay L Shetty said several pontiffs, organisations, cattle lovers had made immense efforts and demanded that the government introduce a ban on the slaughter of cattle. The promulgated Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Ordinance, 2020, bans slaughter of cows in the state. Slaughtering of the cattle which is below 13 years of age is banned.

He also said that the first case of violation has been already registered in Mysuru.

"Slaughter of cows would be a cognisable offence and would attract a fine of Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lac and jail term of three to seven years. If the offence is repeated for a second time, the offender will face imprisonment for seven years with a fine up to Rs 10 lac," he said.

Vinay Shetty also thanked chief minister BS Yediyurappa, state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel, state minister animal husbandry Prabhu Chauhan, BJP MLAs of Dakshina Kannada, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar and social activist Kateel Dinesh Pai for expressing their opinion in the framing of the law.

    Religious texts should not decide what to eat, what to wear etc..if one can animal meat (almost looks likes human flesh) he can eat any animal flesh.. Why ppl behind cow pork only..they can eat even dog cat also. What problem??

    one thing or other these people want to keep general public busy so that their inability to run the country can be hidden and don't know how long we can hold up petrol and gas and the prices of other commodities are skyrocketing and by the way total minorities r less than 20% and in our country there are nearly 70% meat eaters including beef which is available freely in BJP rule Goa and north eastern states the problem is only with eating beef

    When the government has already passed the law what is the hurry or necessity for this so called "Gou Bhakths" to call this press conference. Nothing but hunger for publicity and impatience to attack the minorities.

    Congratulations to the so called majority or upper class Hindus! Finally they have succeeded in cornering the minorities by implementing the anti cow slaughter law.
    Now onwards our state will be ruled by cows. A couple of years down the lane we will rub shoulders with the cows on all the roads in Karnataka.

    Hold your horses. Last week the Karnataka state assembly has officially junked that law and thrown in the garbage. Now BJP’s paid side kicks are fighting against the state assembly decision which is illegal. Your paid app university and blindbhakth majority is outrightly defeated and minorities with rest of the nation have won a legal victory.

    Everyday talks on Cow, beef, love jihad, Muslim, Hindu, Christian only. To hide the failures of Central and State BJP govts, they set their agenda to divert attention of the public.
    Anyone knows FCI is on a debt of 3.5lac crores? India's debt increased many fold after 2014. NPA's increased and no control of finance.
    Wake up citizens, ask questions to the govt for its failures.

    Readers, Article 48, of the constitution of India, is one of the directive principles, which directs states, to make efforts, for banning Beef consumption, smuggling, animal slaughtering and their trading with neighboring borders !!! The ordinance has become law...hence it is the sacred duty of Karnataka state to implement the law both in letter and in spirit !!!!

    Article 48 of construction of India is applicable to Karnataka alone, or to Goa too ?? Or to the entire nation too ?? Why not mentioned that Beef Export is forbidden ?

    Your directive to article 48 to make effort to ban cow slaughter was poured cold water overwhelmingly and thrown out in letter, spirit and monkey Ba’ath. Try operation Kamala method if its stipulated in your constitutional article.

    Karnataka state assembly has completely failed to officially pass cow slaughter bill last week. The only way for this undemocratic govt to pass bill or law is by unofficial way, at unofficial working hours by virtual verbal by its own MPs an MLAs as its BJP’s favourite way of passing any laws just for namesake eye wash excercise which should never get governor’s and president’s nod without opposition leaders approval. Ordinances are passed only for emergency situations temporarily but could be challenged in the court but BJP is more concerned about vote bank than people’s problems.
