Mangaluru, Jan 7: The city police on Thursday January 7 detained more than 70 individuals who were found wandering around at the city's beaches and creating nuisance. Several vehicles were also seized.
As part of 'Operation Suraksha', the police combed four major beaches and found many people consuming alcohol and creating nuisance. On the basis of complaints by the locals, around 20 teams each led by sub-inspectors under the supervision of ACPs and DCPs coordinated the exercise.
Over 70 individuals were detained for questioning. Except for five or six, all of them were found consuming alcohol publicly.

One FIR was booked at Suratkal police station for ganja peddling as the accused were found selling ganja in tablet form mixed with chocolate. One knife was recovered from the accused.
As many as 17 bikes and 7 cars were seized for further documents verification. Of this,12 bikes had pending cases and so also two cars. Some of the bike owners had more than 10 cases registered against them.
All those who were found in drunken state were warned and their documents collected for database purpose. Repetition of such offences will be dealt with severely in the future, the police warned.
