Panaji, Jan 8: The tourism department has begun installing signboards warning visitors of do's and dont's a year after the introduction of laws to curb nuisance in public places.
The signboards also mention any visitors found drinking on beaches will attract fine of Rs 2,000 and Rs 10,000 fine will be imposed if a group is found indulging in such acts.
The move was taken after liquor bottles were scattered on the beaches after the new year celebration while there were reports of visitors getting injured after accidentally stepping on such broken glasses.
Menino D'Souza, tourism director said that assistance from the police department would be instrumental in implementing the laws. "Once we have dedicated tourist police force, we will be able to have better control," he said.
"While waste is cleared three times a day, it is difficult for the workers to spot every small piece of glass under the sand," he added.
