Mumbai, Jan 9: The former vice-president and former chairman and director of Bharat Co-operative Bank (Mumbai) Limited, Billawara Associations Akshay Monthly’s honorary editor M B Kuckian (85) died in the early morning of Saturday after a brief illness at Fortis Hospital in Navi Mumbai.
Mahabala Bhooba Kuckian (knowingly M B Kuckian), a progressive thinker, journalist, poet, storyteller, columnist, businessman, donor and social worker, hailed from Mangaluru Moodushedde Jara. After working at Mumbai's Kuckian Hotel from a small age, he worked in canteens and was educated at night school, pursuing an MA in Kannada literature, business and business with an interest in social service.
Many works have been brought to the world of literature. He wrote and published around 16 books, was honored by many associations, including the Hrudayavahini Magazine Award, the Jayanti Kurkal Sahitya Award, by Chembur Karnataka Sangha, the Sadhana Shikhar Award by the Karnataka Sangha Mumbai, and the Journalist of the Year Award by the Kannada Art Center Mumbai.
He was the president of the Navi Mumbai Kannada Association, the vice-president of the Sahitya Parishad Maharashtra Unit and patron member of The Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha Maharashtra.
Mahavier Amrut Building of Navi Mumbai Sanpada Palm Beach Road, where the deceased lived with his wife, two sons and a daughter, is enormous. M B Kuckian's body was brought to his residence earlier in the day and placed on public display. Billawara Association Mumbai president Chandrashekhar S Poojary and the officers and relatives paid their last respects. The funeral was held in the evening at Chembur.
U S Poojary, chairman of Bharat Bank, vice-chairman Adv Rohini J, Salyan, former chairman Vasudeva R Kotyan, managing director Vidyananda S Kerkera, joint managing director Dinesh B Salan, executive staff, Mumbai University’s Kannada section head Dr G N Upadhya, several organizations of officers and dignitaries expressed their condolences.
