MBA, ITI graduates among four crushed to death by trial-run train on abandoned railway track

Dehradun, Jan 10: In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred in Uttarakhand, a trial train, which was running on the track that was not used for the past two years, crushed four youths, who were discussing their future sitting on the railway track.

Out of the four youths, who died on the spot, two were graduates from ITI, while one was MBA degree holder and the other was a student of B Pharma.

Shishipal, the father of 23-year-old Mayur, one of the deceased in the incident, had got his son do MBA from Gurukula Kangri university by working hard and earning money in Dhaba which he manages. Vishal (24) was also a student of B Pharma of the same institute. His father was working in a city corporation. Father of Praveen (22), one more deceased, is an agriculturist while father of Happy (22) was a contract worker. Both of them were graduates of ITI.

All the four youths were discussing their future sitting on the railway tracks that were not in use at around 6.30 pm on Thursday, January 7 when the mishap occurred.

According to Vineet Chauhan, corporator of Sitapur, where the accident occurred, said, "The train did not honk. There are no walls around the railway tracks. There are two big villages near the tracks. If the train comes suddenly the villagers will not know." All four deceased youths are from the village of Sitapur.

Enraged villagers had stopped trains for three hours on Friday, January 8 as a mark of protest. An FIR is lodged based on the complaint filed by the family members of the deceased youths. DC of Haridwar has said that three different investigations are on the mishap.

Giving clarification on the incident, Gaurav Deekshith, the divisional commercial officer of Moradabad said, "Railway tracks are the property of Indian Railways. We do not need anyone's permission or approval to conduct a trial run. Trial runs are always planned. All security protocol is followed."

The Government of Uttarakhand has announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lac each to the family members of the deceased.
