New Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS): The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Tuesday staged a protest outside the residence of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar against the three farm laws.
Hundreds of activists led by the youth wing chief, Srinivas B.V., raised slogans against the government and demanded the repeal of the three farm laws.
Many of the protesting activists were detained by the Delhi Police.
Speaking to the media, Srinivas said the farmers of the country had launched a historic movement in which over 60 farmers have died so far. "The youth in the country have always worked to awaken the government against dictatorship, and on the occasion of Youth Day, we have come to awaken this dumb and deaf government," the IYC leader said.
He said the Narendra Modi government is adopting a dictatorial attitude which is shameful and the BJP-RSS should understand that 'if there is no farmer in the country, then there will be no India, it would be meaningless to imagine the country'.
He said the youth of the country are with the farmers, and will fight for their rights.
"Modi government is in deep slumber, after all what is the compulsion that the government is not seeing the pain of the farmers?" he asked.
He alleged that the new farm laws have been brought by endangering the future of more than half of the country's population and this betrayal will not be tolerated in India.
IYC National in-charge and AICC Joint Secretary Krishna Allavaru said the youth of the country have given a clear message that they are with the farmers.
He said the Modi government is working for the capitalists and is insulting the mandate by ignoring the demands of the farmers.
Allavaru said the Modi government and the BJP are insulting not just the farmers but every citizen of the country. "And until the anti-farmer laws are withdrawn the Youth Congress will continue its protest to awaken the government and its ministers," he said.
IYC National Media in-charge Rahul Rao also demanded the repeal of the three farm laws.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh have been protesting at several borders of the national capital for the last 48 days demanding the repeal of the three farm laws and guarantee of MSP.
