Just wonder how these people insert so much gold and hold on to it. Are they taking some other person's help? Any comment?

    Dear Mr. Almeida from Bendur/Andheri,

You have a very good point. May be you agree that South Indians believe more in self employment or get employed under an authority. Other parts of India are far more enterprising and do their bit of calculation and ensure that cost for transit is duly paid to everyone who assist the trade. This biz acumen is lacking in the south. Data of tax collection from southern states may concur with this assessment.

On the other hand, southern states also send more people to middle east than their counterparts elsewhere in India.

Usually this Gold will be stored in customs godowns, after a few years rats will start eating it. One final day they will check it out and declare it that rats have eaten the gold. Its as simple as that.

If gold is properly converted into paste, it can avoid detection by airport detectors too...but in most cases they don't convert it into paste properly and get caught....I say better to not smuggle than to stuff gold paste into the rectum

Why Southern states, notably Kerala, Karnataka have a high volume of illegal gold, currency transit routes ?? Gold was smuggled inside Diplomats baggages in Kerala.... Why only one section of our society is always intercepted for all illegal activities ???

Dubai Gold price per gm is ~1000 rupees (20%) cheaper per gram than in India. If you add GST and margin of 3% that becomes even bigger.

Clearly the volumes and forms in which gold is getting seized are not from either individual purchases or for individual consumption. This is making its way to the Gold trade at a loss to consumer and Government.

A foolproof audit of gold maintained by every seller in the country coupled with tighter monitoring of hawala can only help to prevent this.
