Mangaluru Jan 22: Nine students have been arrested in connection to a ragging incident that took place at a private college, informed police commissioner N Shashi Kumar.

Addressing media here on Friday January 22, he said, “The arrested students are Jishnu (20), Shrikanta P V (20), Ashwanth (20), Sayanth (22), Abhirath Rajiv (21), Rahul P (21), Jishnu (20), Mukhthar Ali (19) and Mohammed Razeem (20), who are second year and final year students hailing from Kerala.

“The victim, hailing from Kasargod, was a first year student who recently got admitted to the college here. The victim and his batch mate were constantly ragged by nine students. On January 10, the duo was forced to visit the accused’s paying guest accommodation. The victims were asked them to cut their hair, moustache and were also threatened. The seniors beat up the first year student and behaved in an inhuman way.

“It is said that when the victim went to the paying guest accommodation, already four other students were present there who were being ragged by the seniors. Tired of ragging, the victim decided to discontinue his studies and went back to his home town. The victim informed his parents that he will not go to college again. Doubting this behaviour, the parents informed police. During investigation, the ragging issue at the private college came to light in which nine students were arrested.

“Due to ragging, we have seen many students committing suicide. Some students are very sensitive to deal ragging. It is the college management’s responsibility to take care of this issue. There are instances where the college administration has fail to take action stating the reason that it the ragging incident took place at paying guest accommodation which is outside the college. Ragging incidents taking place anywhere is the responsibility of college administration as it their students. When I discussed the issue with the college management, they said that they have not received any complaint. It is the duty of the college to know what is happening in the college as juniors do not come forward to file complaints against the seniors. The college should be zero tolerant in ragging issues and should not neglect their responsibilities,” he said.

DCPs Hariram and Vinay Goankar were present.

I think this ragging is repeated by second year students as it was done by them in the first year. This we hear almost everywhere in colleges even in girls college.many students keep quite not to get into more trouble and continue.

Many are not in this situation ,and either leave the college or fall sick .They demand money and make them to take drugs etc.out of shame students dont tell.It is the responsibility of college to see such things dont happen.Students too should report such things to officials instead of keeping quite.Such students should be simply put out.

The 1st option is to punish these boys is to dismiss them from the college. The 2nd option call their parents and reprimand them even to the extent of shaming them in the college campus in front of parents that they themself leave the college. No excuse for such behaviour.

Treat the ragging students like terrorists for they are real demons, coming to study but ruining Juniors life and future!
Authorities should be very harsh with raggers.
Society is teaching us to be KIND TO ANIMALS, GOOD, APPRECIATED, but why no kindness to fellow human beings, that too juniors? Surely fellow humans also deserve kindness!

In every college and institution the administration must take in writing on a bond paper that if the student involved in any ragging case, administration have a right to sack them from college immediately. Why unnecessarily you people are giving Police complaints?? Police department already got many cases to handle.

The law has come into force long back banning all such illegal activiities pertaining to ragging. Its a shame on the part of College authorities to take suitable action against culprits who indulges in it. May be in all colleges such ragging activities goes on. The Police Commissioner is required to take stern action against the culprits as they make these poor students make to suffer and now they are the sufferers too. Sack them.

Mallu's, are desperate, pathetic fools, Time after time, "MALLU'S" have shown their true colors.
What if this Junior student had to take a extreme step.People try to say suicide is the most cowardly act a man could ever commit.

I don't think that is true at all. What's cowardly is treating a man so badly that he wants to commit suicide. The parents did the right thing by informing police. These seniors should be kicked out of college.

Mallus are Mallus...they will never improve...In their state they do goondaism in the name of communist and RSS and do not allow any industry to survive.

It is very unfortunate that such a cultured place like mlore is closeby to these coconut fellows.

Even in gulf all non-keralite Indians hate these people because they do cheating, smuggling, backstabbing and things of this nature. They think that they are the off srpings of Albert Einstein and know everything.

Till the Mangaloreans do not start thrashing these people in public, the situation will not improve.

First thing I don't understand is,Why people from Kerala come to Karnataka to take education,Their prestigious government is providing very good education and facilities.

Second thing now a days people of Kerala are crowded all around Mangalore,I feel education institutes should no admit these buffoons to college in Karnataka,They are spoiled by default and they spoil people in Mangalore as well,When I was a student I have seen so many KL students who are careless and arrogant. They come to Mangalore just for time pass.Enjoying a Morning and Evening train ride.

Third thing is even if these college want to admit KL students,Set some least Quota but first give preference to local people.I feel ashamed to tell that just for Gulf money which comes from KL indirectly by these students these Education Institutes are falling pray.

I feel ashamed to see a prestigious college name here,But I see majority of the degree & pu college admit these Malayali's into Karnataka.Which is disastrous part for Karnataka.

Am sure that after 50yrs these Malayalis will start telling Mangalore is part of Kerala.

    Shame Shame Shame

It is better to make Kannada literature subject compulsory for all students. If a student fails in that paper he shouldnot get his degree.

Why do Mangalorean educational institutions admit students from Kerala, is it only to make money in the name of education. Most of the educational institutions are only business houses. The students arrested should not get out on bail, they are not juvenile too. Court should give them a stringent verdict.
