Criminal cases against Hindu Jagaran Vedike, other Hindutva outfits withdrawn

Bangalore, June 17: As if to celebrate the completion of two years in office and the victory of two of its official candidates besides the defeat of the second candidate from the opposition Congress in the just concluded Rajya Sabha elections from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Thursday, the B S Yeddyurappa has decided to withdraw criminal cases registered against activists associated with Hindu Jagaran Vedike and other Hindutva outfits in several parts of the State.
A state cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has decided to withdraw cases registered against activists of the Hindu Jagaran Vedike and other Hindutva outfits in Bangalore, Shimoga, Udupi and other districts.
The cases against activists of the Hindu Jagaran Vedike and other Hindutva outfits were registered in the years 2002, 2003 and 2004 during the previous Congress regime headed by S M Krishna, who is now the Union External Affairs Minister.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Home Minister Dr V S Acharya said the previous Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) governments had registered cases against activists and Hindutva organiations during various political agitations.
The Cabinet has decided to withdraw cases against activist and organisations as there was no damage to public properties, Dr Acharya explained.
A few cases registered against individuals at Sindhagi, Koppal, Humnabad, Haveri and Hanagal police stations have also been withdrawn.
The Cabinet has taken a decision to exempt stamp duty and registration fee for purchase of agricultural lands by farmers who lose their agricultural lands for industrial and infrastructure projects in the State.
It was also decided to give a portion of developed land for farmers who lose their lands for industries and other projects in the State. It was decided to grant 25 % subsidy for those who invest in horticultural processing and value addition industries. But the facility would be available to those who invest up to Rs 10 lakh. A sum of Rs 10 crore has been set aside for the purpose.
For the development of Kannada, an administrative approval was given for spending Rs 25 crore, of which Rs 2 crore each would be given to 11 universities, Rs 2 crore for software development and Rs 1 crore for providing incentives of Rs 1 lakh each for those who pass IAS and IPS by writing test in Kannada.
The Cabinet decided to spend Rs. 164.52 crore for implementing a drinking water project in 11 districts under the centrally sponsored scheme.
It was decided to release Rs 2 crore each for the construction of Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavans in 10 districts of Kolar, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Chamarajangara, Bagalkote, Belgaum, Bijapur, Raichur, Shimoga and Yadgir.
It was also decided sanction Rs 20 crore for construction of model hostels for students in 10 districts, Rs 9.27 crore for a truck terminal in Dharwad, and Rs. 359.48 crore for modernisation of Tungabhadra left bank canal, Dr Acharya said.
Instead of allotting sites, it was decided to give cash award for 751 police personnel who were involved in nabbing forest brigand Veerappan.
Dr Acharya said the Cabinet has not discussed the Justice Jaganath Shetty report on police firing on farmers in Haveri district and it was deferred to the next meeting.
The Cabinet has approved the revised pay scales for employees of the Mysore Paper Mills and decided to allot sites on a concessional rats for journalists of Davanagere district.
The minister said a decision has been taken to regularise services of 468 teachers of
Morarji Desai Residential Schools located in various places in the State. The teachers have been staging protests for the past few years demanding regularisation of their services.
