If peaceful protesting farmers abused, it'll make movement stronger: British MP

Chandigarh, Jan 30 (IANS): A day after violence by a group of miscreants at Singhu on the Delhi-Haryana border, British Labour Party MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi on Saturday warned that "if people in power abuse peaceful protesters, it'll merely make their movement stronger".

"Shocked to see mobs and police trying to intimidate and clear Delhi farmers' protest, after stopping their water, electricity and Internet," Dhesi tweeted.

He added, "Violence can't be condoned, but if people in power abuse peaceful protesters, it'll merely make their movement stronger."

Earlier, Punjab-origin politician Dhesi had sent a letter, signed by over 100 MPs and Lords, to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the ongoing farmers' protests, asking him to raise this matter with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi when they next liaise.

After a clash broke out between protesting farmers and residents of nearby villages at the Singhu border on Friday afternoon, the area in the vicinity was turned into a police cantonment as extra police forces were immediately deployed to control the situation.

Following the stone-pelting incident, Delhi Police barricaded the area and barred entry towards the protest site. However, scores of people claiming to be local residents, most of them holding lathis (sticks) were still present there and they were seen shouting slogans against protesting farmers.

Many of them who claimed to be the residents of the nearby village spoke to IANS and alleged that the farmers had insulted the national flag during tractor rally on January 26 and their constant presence in the area for over two months has caused trouble for the locals.

A Govt that indulges in Dubious and Questionable methods to discredit its own farmers is Unsuitable and Unfit to Govern our country where 65% of our people are from the rural areas of our country and most of whom are farmers and most of their offshoots serving in Armed Forces or Para Military Forces.

Are we in Dictator ship? It is very difficult for any government to sustain a government keeping the majority of the people unhappy.

In India the name "farmer" or Annadaata evokes emotions. please tell me with your little brain is MSP sustainable if the minimum support price is higher that the global price of Agricultural commodities. By giving an MSP price much higher than the global price is to me extremely foolish. never good for any economy. There are countries in this world with vast tracts of Land but less population who can supply agricultural products such as wheat at lesser than the price given by government to the farmers. India is poor because of marginal farmers. farming in a small tract of Land is not economical unless government gives subsidy in the form of MSP. The law of economics is demand and supply and price should be determined by this logic. playing with this is politically beneficial but India will lose.

When the government has agreed to suspend the bills for year and a half, then why this protest continues?. Another 1 and half years we have general elections. if the Bill is so bad that it affects the livelihood of the farmers, let them have their government and get the bills scrapped. In India nearly 50% depend on Agriculture directly or indirectly. Its now clear that there is an agenda in keeping the pot boiling. they want to weaken the Indian economy. If they want peaceful protest without disturbance they can easily protest in their agricultural fields.

Why 1.5 years ? This time is for government to do their operation to weaken or to blackmail some of the supporting groups . So that the protest automatically dies. The present government is ready to do anything if their plan fails............. The slaves and andh bhakts of BJP will also taste the outcome of all these dirty politics but it will take time

India is a democracy. if you don't want something you can change the government. Already two terms of BJP government would be over by 2024. If the bills are really bad for most of the farmers, BJP would not stand a chance in the coming election as majority of the citizens directly or indirectly depend on Agriculture. Here the issue is why disturb the general public with the protests? you can use media visual, Audio, newspapers etc and educate the general public in what respects the Bill is Bad. You may not agree but there are Khalistanis & Pakisthanis who are ogling at the prospect of getting to milk some thing out of these protests. Are you considerate enough for the silent majority who wants these bills?

Do you know how the bill was passed without taking farmers in confidence & by voice vote; also Adani has already acquired land & made all infrastructure ready to store and transport the produce, WHY?
    Is this process of democracy?
