Bengaluru, Jan 31: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa launched the state-wide Pulse Polio 2021 campaign that will cover 64 lac children in the age-group of 0-5 years in Karnataka from his home office, Krishna, on Sunday.
The Chief Minister administered the Pulse Polio drops to a small child.
Health and family welfare minister Dr K Sudhakar, who is also holding the medical education portfolio, and others were present.
The nation-wide pulse polio vaccine drive, which was to be held on January 17, had been postponed to January 31 on account of the COVID-19 vaccination drive which has also been taken up all over the country from this month.
Though India has been declared polio-free by the World Health Organisation (WHO) since 2014 and no cases of polio had been detected in the country since the last 10 to 11 years, the Centre decided to launch the mandatory immunization drive for pulse polio as the disease was found in neighbouring Pakistan and Afghanistan.
