Bengaluru, Feb 2: The state high court has directed the state government to fill the existing vacancy in the Lokayukta at the earliest. The position of Lokayukta-2 is lying vacant now.
Advocate, S Umaplathi, had filed a public interst litigation in this connection. A bench headed by Justice Satishchandra Verma issued this direction.
The government advocate said that when the said PIL was filed, the post of one Upa Lokayukta was vacant. "The government appointed retired judge, Justice B S Patil, to the post as per November 20, 2019 order. On December 14, 2020, Justice N Anand, who was the Upa Lokayukta-2, retired. Steps have been taken to fill that vacancy," he stated and sought time to comply with appointment formalities.
