Mumbai: ‘Konkani Sahitya Samskruti Sammelan’ on Jun 27

Mumbai, Jun 22:
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy in association with St Joseph Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road, Thane, Kavita Trust, Mangalore, and Konkan Kharvi Welfare Association, Mumbai, will be organizing ‘Konkani Sahitya Samskruti Sammelan’ (Konkani Literary Cultural Meet) at St Joseph’s parish community hall, Mira Road, Thane, on Sunday June 27.
 
Anant Ammembal, music director of Mumbai’s Marathi movies, will inaugurate the Konkani Sahitya Samskruti Sammelan at St Joseph’s parish community hall, Mira Road, Thane, at 10.30 am on Sunday.
 
Mumbai-based veteran Konkani litterateur, poet, and Konkani Sahitya Academy Award recipient J B Moraes, Mira Road parish priest Fr Dominic Vaz, and Mumbai-based Rajapur Saraswat Sangh president Prabhakar D Borkar will be the chief guests on the occasion.
 
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Kundapur Narayan Kharvi will preside over the programme.
 
A Konkani library will be inaugurated here during the programme.
 
A poetry workshop will be held from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm on Sunday where renowned Konkani poet and Kavita Trust president Melvyn Rodrigues will be the resource person.  Around 75–100 young poets are likely to participate in the workshop.
 
A youth poetry session will be held from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm on Sunday wherein 13 budding poets will take part.  Nazareth Neri Taccode, Mumbai, will moderate the poetry session.
 
A seminar on changes in Konkani literature and community after the language was included in the eighth schedule of the Indian constitution, will be held from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm.   

Wilson Kateel will speak on the literary aspect and Vitori Karkal on community during the occasion.
 
A senior poets’ meet will be held from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm on Sunday.  H M Pernal will  preside.
 
Poets Philomena Samfrancisco Mumbai, Ron Michael Angelore Mumbai, Navin Kulshekar Mumbai, V D’Silva Kanjurmarg, Sheela Khambadkone Mumbai, Prasann Niddodi, Mumbai, Wilson Kateel Mangalore, Melvyn Rodrigues, and Dileep Dhambalkar Goa will participate in the senior poets’ meet.
 
The cultural programmes will be held from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm.  The artistes of Konkan Kharvi Welfare Association Mumbai will stage a folk dance of the fishermen community and Gerry Rasquinha and group from Mangalore will stage mimicry on the occasion. 

A local folk dance troupe will stage Konkan dances as part of the entertainment programme.
