Udupi: Police arrest three in two different cases of crime

Udupi, Feb 7: Manipal police have arrested three people in connection with two different cases of crime. One person is still absconding.

In the first case, a person called Basavaraj of Bagalkot origin was accused of squeezing the neck and pushing down forcefully Dilip Kumar Rai, owner of Indian Nursery at Manipal, by misleading him to go and check for a snake that had arrived near his house and asking him to pay Rs 10,000 and subsequently escaping from the spot.”

SP Vishnuvardhana had formed a team to nab the culprit. The team led by Manipal sub inspector (SI) Manjunatha M arrested Basavaraj (25), resident of Nandavadaki, Ilakal taluk. SI Rajashekhar Vandali, probationary SI Niranjan Gowda, Devaraja Biradara, ASI Shailesh Kumar, head constables Prasanna, Umesh Yallana Gowda were involved in the operation.

In the second case, Manipal police arrested the accused in the case of threatening students who were walking near KFC hotel at Manipal at night and taking off their mobile, watch and cash.

Three accused who saw a boy and a girl student who were speaking to each other near the KFC building at Manipal at around 12.15 am on December 31t. They approached the victims and on the pretext of asking cigarette and held a knife to the neck of the girl student and escaped with two mobile phones, Rs 250 in cash and ear phones.

Manipal police team under the leadership of SI Manjunatha M and personnel SI Rajshekhar Vandali, probationary SI Niranjan Gowda, Devaraja Biradara, ASI Shailesh Kumar, head constables Mahesh, Abdul Razak, Thomsun, Prasanna, Vishwajit, constables Mohammed Rafiq, Adarsh Naik and Dinesh of CDR unit roamed in Mumbai, Thane, Bengaluru and Shivamogga and arrested Ashif of Shivamogga origin and confiscated Honda Civic car, two android mobile phones and the knife used in the act. Another accused is absconding. Investigation is continuing. The name of another accused is not disclosed due to certain investigation reason.

Many cases are filed against the arrested accused Ashif in various police stations of Shivamogga.

SP Vishnuvardhan has appealed to students of Manipal to be more careful while roaming around at night.
