Udupli, Feb 9: In a heartwarming gesture, a couple made their toddler's birthday meaningful by providing free power connection to an underprivileged family that had been living without power for 16 years.

On behalf of Asare Charitable Trust (R) Kadiyali here, the free power connection was provided to the house of Asha Subhash Naik Nolemajalu. The house is located in Moodu Sagri ward of the city.

The residents of this house were living without power or light for the last 16 years. The connection was inaugurated by Kumari Samanwi Chetan, daughter of Chetan Kumar and Asha Nayak couple, residents of Udupi Kannarpady. Samanwi celebrated her second birthday by inaugurating the facility.

Chairman of Udupi Urban Deelopment Authority (UUDA), K Raghavendra Kini, who also happens to be the general secretary of Asare Charitable Trust, speaking on the occasion, hailed Chetan Kumar couple for providing power connection to the residence of a poor family and said that the couple had celebrated their daughter's birthday in an ideal manner and given a novel message to thie society. He said that by the year 2022, Udulpi will be turned into the first city in the country to have power connection to 100 percent of its houses.

Municipal councillors, Bharathi Prashanth and Aruna S Poojary, and member of UUDA, Suma Naik, were present. Asare Charitable Trust treasurer, Sathish Kulal, welcomed. Vidya Shyamsundar proposed vote of thanks. Locals, Madhava Naik, Sundar Naik and others were present.
