Bank unions call for strike on March 15, 16 against privatisation

New Delhi, Feb 9 (IANS): Bank unions on Tuesday called for a two-day strike starting March 15, against the proposed privatisation of banks.

During a meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday, the United Forum of Bank Unions also decided to hold a day long 'Dharna' (protest) in all state capitals on February 19 followed by relay 'dharnas' from February 20 to March 10 in all states, districts and towns.

A statement by the All India Bank Employees' Association said that the meeting discussed the various announcements made in the budget regarding reform measures including privatisation of IDBI Bank and two public sector banks and setting up of bad bank.

"The meeting observed that all these measures are retrograde and hence need to be protested and opposed," it said.

After deliberations, the meeting decided that intensive struggle programmes and agitational actions have to be launched to fight back these policies of the government, the AIBEA statement said.

It added that further strikes will be decided looking at developments.

"The Government's announcement to privatise our public sector banks is totally unfortunate and unwarranted. The need of the hour is to strengthen public sector banks," the statement said.

Further, the meeting took note of the continuing agitation by the farmers against the farm laws enacted by the government expressed its solidarity with their struggle, it said.

"The meeting adopted a resolution urging upon the government to reconsider their standpoint and find amicable solutions to the demands of the farmers."

Seeing the present way of working and services rendered of PSU banks every where, it is better to privatise banks in the good of customers.Salary and perks for these employees too high compared to other segments of working Blas's in the society at large but utility is much lesser. Thanks to digitalisation of banking sector and now sitting at home a customer can get all the service he needs sitting at home provided he has good I Gerber connectivity.Only for cash requirement be has to depend on banks. Banking sector needs go be relooked massive change with privatisation us a must.

Are beards good luck? Beards also have become a good luck symbol. Hockey players started sporting beards during the Stanley Cup playoffs in the 1980s, and it spread to other sports. Soon we will have strike of astrologers who suggested him to grow beards for good luck.

Whether its LIC, Shipping or aviation - all were at one time government funded entities and jobs provided for people. Now, BJP has sold all government shares and the made them private properties. Who father's property does BJP party thinks these companies were ? Is it the same party's leader who asked '70 saal mein kyaa kiyaa' ??? If nothing was done in 70 years, from where could you sell ? Well done you people, who voted party to power. Now, beg for a living or migrate to Bangladesh who is doing better economically.

Soon govt will not be held responsible for its failures in any sector as all will be privatized. Govt wants to be an aristocratic glorified royal class to enjoy free income on demand. Then why should we pay taxes to the govt and what is the meaning of electing a public servant only to give them power and authority for no benefit to the people and the country but only a big liability to the people and country???????........ Oh yes the EVMs are replaced by people so no worries for the govt either.

The answer is there in your comment itself. So you agree currently banks are overstaffed ! The bank staff had an attitude of saying they are govt staff and they can never get effected and just chill on their chair. Things are changing and the world is changing, be with the time or make space for capable people who have the hunger to work more and grow in their career. Once banks get privatised, the services will improve drastically. Currently you will be the first one to complain saying banks give horrible service as the bank staffs do not take ownerships for any of their work. Are you aware even now 90% of the bank staffs most crucial time is gone in updating customers bank passbook . India is the only country where people flock the banks just to get their passbook updated even during peak corona times. Start charging passbook updates and everything will get streamlined.
