Udupi, Feb 10: Large numbers of tourists have been flocking to the Kemmannu hanging bridge especially during weekends. Kayaking also has started here recently. Therefore, the bridge which was confined only to locals is witnessing an influx of people from far and near.

Tourists come to see the stunning beauty of the flowing Swarna river. Earlier the number of visitors to the place was fairly less given the lack of parking facilities. However, with the recently introduced Kayaking sport, the number of visitors to the spot has increased.

Back in 1991, the bridge was built to attract people from Thimmanna Kudru and Padukudru. It was renovated at a cost of Rs 10 lac in the year 2015.

While two-wheelers are allowed to use the bridge, heavy vehicles are not permitted. Meanwhile, Kayaking activities are being operated keeping in mind the safety of tourists. However, there is no security provided around the area which has left the locals worried. They have also requested the concerned officials to pay attention to this issue.

On the other hand, a Nirmithi Kendra official said that the bridge can withstand the weight and that there was no need to be worried.
