Kasargod, Feb 12: Manjeshwar MLA M C Qamaruddin who has been serving jail time for his connection in the Fashion Gold deposit case was released on bail after 93 days.

The MLA received bail on all the 148 cases registered against him. On February 10, the Hosadurga court granted him bail for the final six cases.

Qamaruddin was released from Kannur jail on Thursday night after fulfilling necessary legal procedures. However, he has not been permitted to travel to places where cases are registered against him. Although, he has been allowed to visit Manjeshwar as there are no cases registered against him in Manjeshwar police station.

Over 155 cases are registered against Fashion Gold company in Chandera police station limits, six in Bekal, 27 in Payyanur, 28 in Kasargod police station and a case each is registered in Kannur and Thalassery. Qamaruddin was arrested in connection with 148 cases on November 7.

Qamaruddin had alleged that his arrest was part of a political conspiracy and he said that it would be public information soon. “I had won the Vidhan Sabha by-election by a huge margin in Manjeshwar and this scam is just a conspiracy to portray me in a bad light,” he said.

Now, it is likely that if the MLA contests in Kerala Vidhan Sabha elections, that is due in the next two months, from Manjeshwar political questions, will be raised. Meanwhile, Qamaruddin had expressed an inclination to contest in the elections if he gets bail. He said that he will contest if the party wants it.
