Udupi: Unique Protest - Nityananda Olakadu Mimicks Nityananda Swamy

Udupi, Jun 29: The Jilla Nagarika Samiti had organized a new form of protest against the hike in oil and LPG prices brought in by the central government, resignation of the Lokayukta, and the corruptive practices of the state government. Samiti’s general secretary, Nityananda Olakadu, donned the role of self-styled godman, Nityananda Swamy, for some time, by mimicking the recent ‘Panchagni’ penance performed by the latter, on Monday June 28.

Olakadu performed his ‘penance’ in the premises of SMSP Sanskrit College here. Rolled gunny bags soaked in gingelly oil were arranged to form a circle. Camphors were placed along the length of the gunny bags, before fire was started. Olakadu in the garb of a Hindu godman, entered the circle and started mimicking the penance, duly holding a garland of Rudraksha beads in one hand and a placard against corruption in the other. LPG cylinders bearing placards spelling out demands of the Samiti were stacked at three different places.

The ‘penance’ continued for about 20 minutes, and Olakadu periodically opened his eyes to see whether his farce had attracted enough people or not.

Dear anamika, mangalore-why do u think minorities blindly vote for congress-I & my family members have no party affiliation, we have voted for congress,janatha of 1977, JDS as well as BJP recently- & we were rewarded by desecrating our places of worship, cases are withdrawn on only those outfits that are communal. We don't need any mirror to see the truth, nobody can fool us always. Let BJP come out of its single point agenda of discriminating minorities-then we will whole heartedly support BJP. We are only concerned about protection of Human Rights & donot support rabid attacks on it in any guise.

BJP which is the poloitcal arm of RSS/VHP is no doubt a communual party and we dont need any certification of secular ccredentials of BJP either from you or rest of readers. We know who is who and what is what. BJP on its own never came to power in Delhi. It was an alliance of NDA. The NDA partners were against the building of Ram Temple though BJP pursuaded them to do so, but failed miserably.

If one can recall The price hike in fuel began every now and then after year 1995 when BJP came into power in centre.

Till 1995 60 years of congress rule there use to be hike in fuel prices on yearly basis.

BJP laid the foundation for increase in fuel prices now and then.

As a result if one observe one can see the steep increase in price of all commodities etc. after 1995.

Mr. Nagesh Nayak correctly said. This stupid congress govt. makes the life of poorer hell. The recent increase in fuel price is an example. Prime Minister Singh and President sonia must leave the party. Otherwise people will leave the party. Congress party is unfit to rule India. Whatever the drawbacks in BJP, it is not anti public like congress. BJP is a party for all. It's dangerous for the Minorities to follow blindly congress. Congress projecting BJP as a communal party to hold the minorities with them. If BJP is a communal party, it would have constructed the Ram Mandir while it was in power. Congress is stabing in the back of Minorities . Just wake up minorities and try to understand BJP.

@Nagesh - i think so you dont no that Karnataka is having high fuel price then any other state. now the govt is BJP even now when UPA govt raised fuel price by 3.73. kar it raised by Rs.5. i think so u forgot about onion price hike in time of Atal Govt.

The Political class make a hue and cry about increase in Petrol and Gas Price. Does anybody make a hue and cry about Increase in cigarette price, Liquor price, cosmetics (Perfumes, lipsticks, talcum powder, creams etc) and so on. Take for e.g. Mangalore city - The vehicles on road is 10 times more than infrastructure we have. Roads are there with no proper footpaths, no pedestrian crossing, no indicators, In the nights one way becomes two way, no speed control, heavy traffic violations etc. Nobody agitates for poor road facility. Before concretising came into existence asphalting of roads was taking place and in rain the asphalt got wiped out and that time nobody got annoyed. We lived with it and got used to it. To really fight fuel price then stop using vehicles (Cars and bikes) and utilise the public transport. Even to go 1 km distance people use their car or bike and never want to walk the distance. Will people stop buying cars and motor bikes no way and even if the price increase by 10% or 20% still they will buy but will not pay a higher price for fuel and gas. Accept reality and live with it.

Probably Nagesh maam has forgotten, how many times fuel prices were raised by NDA within a year. There is no free lunch-Please read Swaminathan Aiyer's articles in this regard in Times of India every Sunday. The lesser the fuel price-the more will be wasteful consumption, the more the price people will use fuel only for necessity rather than unnecessary jolly rides(wasteful). India requires judicious use of natural resources than keeping the prices down artificially subsidising rich people's extravagant life style. Non-renewable resources should be made market oriented than freebies.
As India is dependent on imported oil for more than 70% of its need which is rising day by day-the need of the hour is to accept responsibility by each & everyone rather than blaming any govts.( & supporting any previous govts., blindly, thinking that people have short memory).

Humorous way of protest, well done. It is also an eye opener to all those who follow blindly the yagnas, poojas and what not just because their forefathers were doing it. He is a good member in Opposition like our great Vatal Nagaraj, who likes to be in public memory with such agitations. He did the marriage of Animals for Rain, etc

However, sometimes he does good work too. This year, he protested against the Volakad High School for conducting entrance test for taking students into 8th std. They used to take students with above 80% and advertise that, they had track record of 100% result. He opposed it saying that, Govt High Schools should be in reach of all students without merit limits. There is nothing great in getting 100% result with student of Merit Record.

However, he is always in the forefront in agitations against the Govt, irrespective of ruling party. He is REALLY A GOOD OPPOSITION PARTY.
