Mangaluru: Underground drainage work - Padavinangady covered by cloud of dust

Mangaluru, Feb 18: The people living by the side of the road that passes from in front of the supermarket at Padavinangady and Goddess Mahalasa Narayani temple have been encountering a grave problem. They cannot open their doors and windows, nor can they sit outside their homes. They cannot keep any things outside because of the dusty climate. The tar road here has been dug, and after fixing the underground drainage system, the gap is covered with mud. Whenever vehicles move on these heaps of dust, thick clouds of dust fly far and wide.

The road has a number of apartments and over 50 houses and shops. The dust has been particularly harmful to senior citizens, children and sick people living here. They are compelled to inhale dust-filled air.

People going to the excise office at Bolpugudde, the office of the home guards, Mary Hill and Kavoor temple use this road. As vehicles regularly pass on this road, the people are compelled to seal all ventilation routes in their houses. If they sit in the balconies, they are bound to bathe in dust.

The road had been dug during the rainy season for underground drainage works. At that time, the road was full of slush and vehicular movement was rendered very difficult The locals had not opposed the work, and the people's representatives had promised to asphalt the road after repairs. But even after five to six months since the road digging, the work has not been attended to.

Municipal corporator, Sangeetha R Nayak, said that the road will be concreted shortly at a cost of two crore rupees and once that is done, the dust problem will be addressed automatically.
