Puttur, Feb 20: In connection with a theft which happened at Uppinangady two months back, the Uppinangady police have succeeded in arresting notorious thief, Hameed alias Kunhimonu (46), a resident of Padangady in Beltangady taluk. His accomplice, Farooq, had been arrested relating to a theft at Bantwal.

Hameed was needed in several cases of thefts registered at about 15 police stations. Hameed, along with Farooq, had entered Mahammayi Enterprises and Ullas Bar at Uppinangady on December 11 and stolen cash. Hameed had then entered Athithi Enterprises and Nursery at Nattibail and taken away cash.

It is gathered that these thieves used to steal CCTV cameras and DVR at the spots of theft and throw them into the river to erase proof that could go against them.

The operation was led by police circle inspector Umesh Uppalike, and Uppinangady sub-inspector of police Eraiah D S.
