Belagavi: Meet 'Gajendra' - The buffalo valued at Rs 61 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Belagavi (SP)

Belagavi, Feb 27: It is commonly understood that buffalos are traded in terms of thousands of rupees. You may be surprised to learn that a buffalo here has commanded a price of Rs 61 lac.

The buffalo with the above price tag is at Mangasuli village of Kagwad taluk in the district. It is known by the name, 'Gajendra'. The way it walks with royal elegance, its gifted body, and tall stature are captivating. Gajendra belongs to Vilas Nayak of Mangasuli village. It is of Mura breed. It consumes 15 litres of milk, five kg cattle feed, green grass, sugarcane etc every day. Vilas has been owning it for the last three years.

At the cattle exhibition recently held at Tasgaon village, Sangli, Maharashtra, it is said, a price of Rs 61 lac was offered for the buffalo but Vilas and his family did not sell it as they look upon it as a member of their own family. Vilas says that he does not mind spending money on looking after and taking good care of Gajendra.

The owner should have 24 x7 armed guard to shoot at sight any unholy breed of cattle thieves who may have their evil eye on this magnificent bufallo.

This bull Mura breed is an invaluable asset, for V. Nayak.. this bull fetches enormous volumes of hard cash for owner as it is primarily used for insemination of female buffaloes... I remember another bull, whose market rate was over 1 crore, in Gujarat. Animals have huge momentary value, whereas humans commands less then any pea nut !!!
