Udupi: Newly-elected Shirva gram panchayat president Conrad Castelino passes away

Udupi, Feb 28: Newly-elected Shirva gram panchayat president Conrad Gregory Castelino passed away due to cardiac arrest on the afternoon of Sunday February 28.

He had been a member of Congress earlier. In the recently held gram panchayat elections, he contested independently backed by BJP and won. Thereafter, he joined the BJP, and with the party's support, he was made president.

He had earlier served as director of Zilla Sahakari Union Niyamitha, a union of all the co-operative societies of Udupi district.

A residen of Panjimar, Conrad belonged to Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva. He was an active member in several associations in and around Shirva, and was a member of the pastoral council of his church.

He served as president of Vyavasaaya Sahakaari Sangha Niyamitha, Shirva, and president of United Welfare Association, Shirva. He was an active political party worker in Udupi, and a member of the local unit of Red Cross Society.
