Karkala: Three go down well - One dead, two hospitalised

Karkala, Mar 3: A labourer identified as Manikanta (25) died due to asphyxiation due to lack of oxygen when he went down a well to undertake maintenance work. Two others who accompanied him became sick and were hospitalised. The incident happened at Bailoor in the taluk on Tuesday March 2.

The said well that is 35 feet deep, is under construction and located in the layout owned by Amrit Nayak near Nire gram panchayat office. The work of the half-finished well was entrusted by contractor Nagaraj, to labourers Manikanta and Girish. When both of them went down, they became unconscious due to lack of oxygen. Nazeer went down to rescue the two but he too lost consciousness. Later, with the help of locals, Sujit succeeded in bringing them out of the well and taking them to a hospital.

A case relating to this unnatural death was registered in the town police station here.
