Bengaluru, Mar 3: Minister of Water Resources Ramesh Jarkiholi on Wednesday, March 3, resigned from the post held by him.
He said that he is resigning shouldering the responsibility on moral grounds.
“I do not want to embarrass the party. Once I am proved innocent after the investigation, I will assume my role as a minister once again,” he reportedly conveyed to chief minister B S Yediyurappa.
Earlier in the day, state home minister Basavaraj Bommai said that an inquiry has been ordered into allegations of the sex scandal involving the minister. He had also said that the BJP high command will take a call on demand for his resignation from the Cabinet.
It may be recalled, a sexually explicit videotape containing intimate moments of the minister, in the company of a lady, went viral on media on Tuesday. Social activist Dinesh Kallahalli had complained to the police, claiming that Jarkiholi has posed a death threat to the lady with whom he indulged in sex.
The tape was widely shared overnight and there was an increasing demand for his resignation from the ministry.
