The 15-feet deep pit used for disposing poultry farm waste was located there. A huge pile of mud had accumulated over the pit. The labourers were standing on the concrete sheet when it suddenly broke. When the labourers went down with the slab, this pile of mud got deposited on them, thus burying them alive instantly.
Backhoe was used to bring the labourers out but by then they were no more. Fire brigade and Sampya police were involved in the rescue operation. The locals on this occasion, expressed anger at the delay in beginning rescue work. The bodies were handed over to families after post-mortem at the government hospital here.
