Mumbai, Jul 8: MLA Krishna Hegde will be cast in national award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar’s next movie.
Hegde and Bhandarkar were friends since their college days. Apart from playing street cricket as youngsters they were both part of the Mithibai College Canteen crowd in the mid and late 80’s.
Mithibai boasts of several illustrious bollywood alumni like director Ashutosh Gowarikar, actor Ajay Devgan, Raveena Tandon, Bobby Deol among others. Madhur and Hegde used to speak of films and politics in the Mithibai College canteen over ‘cutting chai’ when Madhur was aspiring to be a film director and Hegde was then a student leader.
In one of the discussions Madhur had promised Hegde that he would cast him in a ‘Cameo’ role if he made it as a director and Hegde became an MLA. Now after, 25 years Madhur has offered Hegde a ‘Cameo’in ‘Dil to Bachcha Hai Jee’. This is Madhur’s first film after Hegde has been elected an MLA from Mumbai’s prestigious Vile Parle Constituency.
When asked about the role, Bhandarkar said Hegde would be playing a small role “I am casting him as MLA Krishna Hegde in the movie. We used to talk about each other’s careers during our college days. While Krishna was an enthusiastic student leader, I was pursuing a career in films. I remember telling him one day that the day he becomes an MLA, I will cast him in my film. That day has come, and I guess I have to keep my promise”.
“We were vacationing together a month back. During the trip, Madhur was talking about his next film, and suddenly said, ‘I have a role for you’. Madhur being such a talented director, and a National Award Winner, I could not resist the offer. After all, it is every person’s dream to shine on the silver screen. My dream is being fulfilled, thanks to Madhur,” Hegde said.
