Mumbai, Jul 9: The Thiyas in and around the city joyously extended their heartfelt co-operation to celebrate the first ever ‘Thiya Day’ in the history of the community.
The celebration was a grand success with over 500 audiences actively taking part in the entertainment programme organized by the member of Thiya Welfare Association.
The children were all enthusiastic to perform for the first time in their own community platform. Their show was choreographed by well-known stage and TV artist Chandravati Vasant.
Witnessing a jam packed auditorium, Govind Manjeshwar, the president of the association and Roopesh Rao, the vice-president said, “Next time we will book a double capacity auditorium for the celebration”.
All the entertainment shows presented on the day, enthralled the audience. The orchestra and mimicry shows were highly lauded by the audience. On an average each artist participated in two performances.
Thiya Welfare Association has completed one successful year. It has strived hard to make the ‘Thiya Bhavan’, it has initiated a strategic alliance with ‘Kadala Srishti’ a Kannada fortnightly news magazine from Kasargod / Mangalore and ‘Shree Sasihithlu Bhagawati Thiya Sangha’ a like- minded community. The association has also initiated a process for formation of a ‘credit society’ to help women from South Canara districts and Mumbai. All these initiatives including issuing of OBC certificate were taken in the last 365 days.
The Thiya Welfare Association also publishes ‘Thiya Samachar’, an English and Kannada monthly news magazine and is planning many more such initiatives.
Vice- president Roopesh Y Rao welcomed thegathering. General secretary Yadav M Rao briefed about the activities of association. Editor of Thiya Samachara Ishwar M Ail and Vicky Bolar compered the programme.
Well-known businessman Krishna N Uchil, Dr Karunakar Bangera, Dr Hemalata, Dr Vishwanath Karnad, Sanjeeva Shiriya and Rohit Suvarna were the guests of honors. Seeta Saliyan from Mahila Wing and Jalajakshi Bengre of Divin's spark among others were present.
