London, Jul 9 (IANS): Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez has withdrawn from an event in Cyprus after critics slammed her for agreeing to the show on the 36th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of the European island.
Lopez was to perform at the opening of a new hotel complex Cratos Premium in the Turkish Cypriot part of the popular tourist destination July 20, reports femalefirst.co.uk. But she scrapped the show after learning that it coincides with the anniversary of the Turkish troops invasion on the Greek-owned island in 1974.
Lopez insists she would never have agreed to the concert in the first place if she knew about the history and relevance of the date.
"After a full review of the relevant circumstances in Cyprus, it was the decision of management to withdraw from the appearance. This was a team decision that reflects our sensitivity to the political realities of the region," said a representative from the management.
