Kannur, Mar 10: Officers of Customs, Kannur International Airport, on Wednesday March 10, detected three cases of smuggling of gold weighing more than one kg valued over Rs 48 lac.
A passenger named Rayees, native of Koithuparamba, who arrived from Sharjah in flight IX 1746 had concealed about 560 grams of gold in paste form in his rectum. The total value of gold seized is around Rs 25 lac. However, alert officers caught him, registered a case and arrested him. Further investigation is in progress.
The officers intercepted a daughter and mother who arrived from Sharjah in GoAir flight. The daughter, a 15-year-old, had concealed about 350 grams of gold in her innerwear.
The mother also had concealed about 140 grams of gold in her innerwear. The total value of these 2 seizures is over Rs 22 lac.
The seizures were made by assistant commissioner Madhusoodana Bhat, superintendent Sukumaran and team.
