Belagavi, Mar 11: A person accused of getting the insurance amounts of customers to his own account and used to send fake notices to banks posing as the office of the enforcement directorate (ED), stands arrested. The arrest was made by Belagavi cybercrime, economic offences and narcotics (CEN) station personnel.
The arrested accused happens to be Madhukar Volas Savale (31) from Shastri Nagar, Belagavi. It is said that in addition to posing as enforcement directorate, he also misused the name of the district judge, and sent legal notices to banks in the names of advocates. He is also said to have got amounts lying unclaimed with private insurance companies in respect of expired policies transferred to his name.
Through Notices sent in the name of the enforcement directorate, New Delhi, he had asked banks to freeze the accounts of customers. Three such notices were sent to Union Bank of India Belagavi. Notices were also sent to State Bank of India, IDBI Bank, Bank of Maharashtra Khanapur branch and banks in different states. The police said that these things were revealed during his questioning.
