Bank staff strike on March 15-16 against privatisation

Chennai, Mar 11 (IANS): With the conciliation meeting between bank unions and the Central government failing, about 10 lakh bank employees will strike work for two continuous days - March 15 and 16 - protesting against the government decision to privatise public sector banks, the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) said on Thursday.

According to AIBEA General Secretary C. H.Venkatachalam, the conciliation meeting held between the bank unions and the Union Finance Ministry on March 4, 9 and 10 failed.

The unions said they would reconsider their strike call if the government agrees to reconsider their decision to privatise public sector banks.

As the Finance Ministry representative could not give any such commitment, the conciliation meeting did not yield any positive result, they said.

Will privatization generate employment? Instead of privatising once nationalized banks, the govt. should encourage establishment of more new private banks. There should be parallel private and public sector banks generating employment. PSUs will automatically come to the mark when they will have to face competition from private players. Further the govt. should have privatized only sick banks like BOB instead of merging with Vijaya Bank.

Service standard needs to be improved in all organisations, public sector banks being no exception. Public sector banks might be slow in several aspects, but then, safety of one's hard earned money is paramount to the general public. Every one is aware what happened to two of the private sector banks just last year only, one had to be bailed out by a public sector bank and another had to be offered to a foreign bank at a throw away price. The money saved by the public by their sweat and blood was ensured to be safe. Depositors interest is always protected, at times, at the cost of poor share holders whose fingers get burnt as their investment gets zeroised. Public do not notice the failure of private sector banks as their money is not at all lost, thanks to government relying on public sector banks in case of failure of such private sector banks. Year after year, we are witnessing the failure of several private sector banks, co-operative banks etc.

Now Public Sector Banks are being sold to private sector. It’s not only Banks all that was done from taxpayers money for 75 years is sold by the present not to reduce taxes but to bridge the gap of mismanagement. Very soon we will see all voters on the streets as a result of Ache Din. Petrol, Gas, Consumables, Cost of living, Education, Medical facilities for seniors, Jobs, GST impact on small business , women safety, freedom of speech, standard of living, infrastructure development, Corporate Governance, Institutional Freedom, law and order, judiciary, humanity etc is experiencing Ache Din. We can’t blame Banks and it’s staff May it be public, private, cooperative, societies if the RBI Governor is henpecked dumb appointed to swindle general public. Continue worshiping Gujarati Businessman and keep dreaming for Ache Din!

Naturally, they now have to work more and can not afford to be rude with the customers anymore. Also they would not be entitled for all holidays which they enjoyed so far. One of my friend used to make fun by saying all days marked RED in calendar are holidays for only Bank staff.

Bank employees go on strike for whose benefit ? is it for their benefit or customers benefit? Bank customers/Public, have seen and experienced Nationalized bank staff's rude behavior all these years. When the unwilling merger of banks were taken place, all other banks kept quiet. well performing banks pushed into ill-gotten banks, to protect the corporate looters / defaulters. At least now people has to understand that now government is only by the people & not FOR the people nor TO the people.

Good decision by Bank staff. They are fighting for their rights as in the the past privatisation in the past many and many lost their hard earned investment in many ways. I hope I am right or wrong as I have lost a lot in the past and even now.

The bankers only want a extended weekend. Useless staff in the PSU banks always doing nothing in the branch. At times reluctant to update passbooks of account holders. Giving excuses like server is down, printer is not working, connection problem, staff is not there and etc. Account holders should not be taken for a ride with such reasons.

To all andhbhakths, please continue to support BJP. Then only he/his team can sell the remaining assets which are not noticed yet. That means so soon we can go back to our old golden days (100 + year's back). I believe andhbakths will read this message and starts clicking "Disagree" 🤪

Subhash Chandra, the more you project 'turning potatoes into gold' as a non-BJP promise, it indirectly hits at you (if you're a supporter) and the remaining andh-bhakts. How ?? Please Google it.

When banks in Karnataka got merged with BOB, these people were dumb. When DK's pride, three banks became one, again these people had no voice. Now when the slurry has reached to their bottom, the cats have started mewing. Are ex-Vijaya Bank too part of the protestors ? Did you guys give-in to public outcry 'not to change Light House Hill Road name' ? What ? You expect the public's support now?
